Dr. Ashraf is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea and refractive surgery, including laser vision correction. Here are some facts about Dr. Ashraf:
- He has personally performed over 40,000 LASIK procedures in Atlanta and Dubai.
- He has extensive experience with the excimer laser, even prior to the FDA approval while on faculty at the Johns Hopkins University.
- He has an impressive academic background with extensive research that has resulted in the publication of numerous articles in scientific journals and major textbooks.
- As a fellowship trained corneal specialist, he also has tons of experience in corneal transplantation, cataract surgery and anterior segment microsurgery.
After completing his medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio, Dr. Ashraf went on to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland for a one-year eye research fellowship. He completed his ophthalmology residency at George Washington University in Washington D.C. and went on to Johns Hopkins University for advanced training in corneal and refractive surgery. After completing a corneal and refractive surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Institute in 1996, Dr. Ashraf remained on staff as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. His duties included performing surgery and teaching other doctors how to perform microsurgery and refractive surgery. His surgical experience includes the correction of natural refractive errors and restoring damaged eyesight caused by trauma or previous surgery. Dr. Ashraf then relocated to the Atlanta area and founded the Atlanta Vision Institute, where he performs LASIK surgery on numerous patients daily.
Dr. Ashraf specializes in eye allergies, astigmatism, cataracts, corneal diseases, double vision, nearsightedness, farsightedness, glaucoma, macular degeneration, optic nerve disease, dry eye syndrome, vitreous disorders and emergency and general eye care. Treatments offered by Dr. Ashraf include bifocal correction, cataract surgery, corneal transplants, diagnostic testing, general ophthalmology and more.
