On Halloween, many people get very creative with their costumes, from wearing funky hair extensions to colored contact lenses. However, if you were guilty of wearing cheap contact lenses that you purposely purchased to match your costume, you should be very cautious of doing it again next Halloween. According to the American Optometric Association, the contact lenses you own and wear should only be ones that are prescribed to you by the proper physician and must be fitted to your eyes. The Baltimore Sun reported that 28% of the people who wore contact lenses on Halloween didn’t purchase them through a physician, but through strangers at sketchy venues such as gas stations. Wearing these types of lenses overtime can lead to problems like eye allergies, infections and possibly even blindness. It’s important that the contacts you wear are the contacts only your eye doctor approves and gives you.
